Hi. Welcome back to UOU.

This week's concept is about Television.

Is it a killer of dreams or a creator of dreams?

Television was invented in 1927 by Philio Taylor Farnsworth.

His idea and dream to pursue this was from the tender age of 14.

He achieved his dream at the age of 21.

7 years later.

In fact, he was not the first person to think of this idea.

He was the first person to find a way to make it a reality.

He was a dreamer. The inventor of Television envisioned it before it is existed.

The other guy (which would've been many!) who thought of the idea but never pursued it was a realist.

Television was thought to be created for two reasons.

  1. Providing information

  2. Providing entertainment

How many hours a week do you spend watching TV?

How many of those hours do you learn something about yourself and how many of those hours enhances your understanding of the world?

Why do you watch TV?

What does TV give you?

Most will watch it to switch off from work, use it as a tool to spend valuable time with loved ones or become invested into it for entertainment purposes.

TV is a creator of dreams.

Directors who want to share real life or creative stories through film, theatre, TV shows.

Scientists, academics, people now celebrities who want to educate the public about animals, humanitarian topics, news, discoveries, the earth or beyond.

People who have skills to share; cooking, art, business and many more.

TV can be a wonderful thing in creating hope in people who may be experiencing a difficult time.

It can be a form of company whilst they are alone physically they do not feel so alone watching TV.

TV can educate the public in learning more about culture, animals, the earth and human behaviour.

TV can create a lot of laughter and joy when families and friends come together watching a comedy show or a drama series.

TV can create warm fuzzy feelings you know the 'whole curl up on the sofa with your love or your takeaway' (haha!) kind of vibes.

This is what people who create shows or content for TV want to achieve besides the money of course. This is one view.

TV is a killer of dreams.

The public sitting on the sofa watching others live out their dreams rather than focusing on their own

The public living their dreams through others by simply watching from afar in TV shows

The public having conversations with others about TV shows to distract them from wanting more than what they have (to name a few)

This concept of TV is a killer of dreams is a perspective of those who watch TV which carries no benefit in personal growth.

TV can create anger and resentment towards those you watch who are successful (even though those that are watching are contributing to their success). This can be reality TV shows, talk shows, news channels.

TV can create conformity subliminally. So you become accustomed to accepting drama is normal in everyone's life and we all suffer in some way or another. Think of the soaps and drama series you may have watched and how much it can subliminally influence you. Think of what you are watching and what messages you are sending to your brain. What information is being fed into your mind. Your behaviour is reflective of your conscious and sub conscious thoughts.

TV can distract you or waste your time. So people who say 'I've always wanted to...' spend all their time saying this and spend hours in front of a TV rather spend all those TV hours on what their dreams and gifts are.

This is very common. Many people say 'I've always wanted to write a book or I've always wanted to act or I've always wanted to create my own business to...' but then go home after a job to then not work on those gifts. They go home, make dinner and look forward to sitting and watching TV.

Have a think about what Television means to you.

I shared two strong and contrasting views of TV (and there are so many layers to it)

You decide what a television is for.

TEL- E- VISION...It is telling you what vision to have.

The man who invented television had a vision in his mind in capturing and transmitting images onto a screen.

What images are you capturing and transmitting into your minds everyday?

What is your vision for your life?

Do you think TV is a killer of dreams or a creator of dreams?

I would love to hear what you think.

My Warmest Wishes to you

See you next week!
